About The Intrinsic Factor

Medium: Colour etching, drypoint and aquatint (à la poupée)

Edition of 2.

600 mm wide (diameter full circle) x 190 mm high.

I am fascinated in the material and fossil remains of cultures, past and present, which often provides only source of information available for past non-literate societies.  My purpose in making this artist’s book was to portray snippets of those pieces of history.

The narrative begins and ends with the earth, and the book reflects my belief that all life is interconnected and interdependent.  Archaeologists and palaeontologists try to learn about the past from remains, whether from human cultures or through the history of plants and animals based on fossil recordings.  However, we do not seem to learn from the past.  There is never peace, justice or environmental sustainability.

About Cracked: Chasms on the road of life

I find the meandering cracks and fissures in the roads and pavements beautiful; especially the various strata of aged, exposed surfaces overlaid by fresh layers. To me these echo the patterns of our own lives.
